Kevin Saharic
Kevin and his family moved to Lebanon Borough in 1975 when he was 11 years old from Sea Bright NJ. It was in Sea Bright that Kevin’s love of fire trucks started, watching his father’s involvement with Sea Brights fire department.
After moving to Lebanon, Kevin would be seen following the fire trucks on his bicycle whenever the siren blew. At age 16 Kevin was finally able to become a junior firefighter for Lebanon Borough. His father Lex and his older brothers Mark and John were already there waiting to show him the ropes. His mom Hazel and twin sister Lisa were also involved in the Ladies Auxiliary
In 1984 at age 19 Kevin became lieutenant of the Lebanon Borough fire department and worked his way up to become the chief of the department. Kevin was chief for 23 years.
During his tenure he has designed numerous new pieces of apparatus and has accrued thousands of hours of training and fire instruction. He has been a role model to the young men that have joined the fire company in the 45 years Kevin has been a member.
Volunteerism was instilled in Kevin at an early age from his parents and now Kevin and has passed that down to his own daughter’s Marlaina and Ali and their husbands Tucker and Corey. All of them are also members of the fire company. Kevin’s five grandchildren, Blake, Matthew, Owen, Hazel and Carter can be seen at the fire house, marching in the 4th of July Parade and riding on the fire trucks.
In 1992 The Hunterdon County 200 Club Award of Valor went to Kevin for his assistance in rescuing a downed firefighter during a large-scale fire. The Valor Award recognizes a firefighter for saving a human life in an extreme emergency situation.
In 2022 Kevin received an award from the Hunterdon County Fire Chiefs Association for his rescue of a civilian who was trapped during a building fire.
Kevin is also the Public Safety Director for Lebanon Borough and was Volunteer of the Year in 2023.
Kevin’s dedication to Lebanon Borough and fire company will also remain one of his priorities.
In his downtime, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife Michele, his two daughters and five grandchildren. If he is not in town, you will find him fishing off his boat somewhere around Sandy Hook.
